| From the horse’s mouth THE SOUTH AFRICAN QUARTERLY JOURNAL I have heard African Mirror described as ‘eye candy’ for the business minded. This is modern speak from a world where talk show hosts are icons and pretty blonde porn site hostesses are role models, so we dare to be a little old-fashioned and welcome our new association with African Leadership Institute and Coaches and Mentors of South Africa. We are also very fortunate to have grown our official in-suite presence in Southern Africa’s finest 4-, 5- and 6-star hotels, lodges and private game reserves. The magazine’s guaranteed distribution makes it the finest in the land for communicating to the inbound and outbound business traveller.
Consorcio Valencia 2007, a public organisation that unites national, regional and municipal authorities in Spain has launched an international ideas competition to plan part of the infrastructure pertaining to the America’s Cup and the area around it. The site covers a total area of approximately 1 350 000 mē within Valencia’s inner docks and annex spaces, plus a water surface of around 565 000 mē. The area is to be called Valencia del Mar - Marina Real Juan Carlos I. It is endorsed by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and open to architects from around the world. Registrations close on 31 October 2006.
I have given this event a bit of a punt as I have interviewed the South African Ambassador to Spain in this issue and architecture is a recurring theme.
Our relationship with the United Nations over the last five years has been important to the principle of African Mirror and the team thank and wish Mr & Mrs Annan all the best in their future.
Africa gets less than 5% of global tourism and South Africa less than 1% of all international travellers. 90% of South Africa’s tourism growth has come from Africa. More money, time and effort spent on marketing the country to the continent will result in bums in beds all year round with the obvious spin-offs for local and national economies. - If yours is in bed enjoy the read! |
